Our Journey Together
Our pilgrimage fortnight is contemplative—inspired by St. Benedict, and experienced in a “Benedictine style” of work, study, prayer, and rest. We will take time to savor each experience of our journey, pausing at times each day for prayer, quiet time, and rest. In addition to worship and prayer in public churches, we will have our own small groups, private practice and prayer, as well.
First, we arrive in Israel, warmly welcomed by our ground guides, and begin to live at St. George’s College (Guest House), the beautiful campus of gardens and a magnificent Church, seat of the Anglican Bishop of the Middle East. It is located very near the Damascus Gate to the Holy City of Jerusalem. This will be our home for the pilgrimage, except for three nights in Nazareth. We enjoy the peace and quiet of this lovely place each day.
Second, we move to Nazareth, for three incredible days with the Sisters of Nazareth. We see the site of Jesus’ early family life and explore the areas near the Sea of Galilee, including Capernaum, the home of Peter, the Mt. of Beatitudes, and other sacred sites, including the Miracle of the Fishes and Loaves. We visit the Monastery dedicated to the Samaritan Woman, the church built over Jacob’s Well, and Taybeh, the most Christian town under Palestinian Authority.
Third, we return to Jerusalem, where we focus more on the tumultuous events that culminate the earthly ministry of Jesus—walking down the Mt. of Olives and the Garden of Gethsemane, the route of entry into Jerusalem, the place of trial, death and resurrection. We experience the recognition moment on the Road to Emmaus.
We journey with hearts full of interest, compassion, revelation, and awe as the life of Jesus slowly reveals the Christ presence that will change the world.
